Where Maria began
Maria came to Alif Healing seven months after losing her mother. By the time we spoke, she had already tried most of what a thoughtful, grieving adult is told to try: a grief counselor, a meditation app, a daily walk, and the slow, patient work of journaling. She had been sleeping with a light on because the dark felt like a room her mother should still be in. She had stopped calling her sister, not out of anger, but because every conversation circled back to the empty place where their mother used to be.
"I am functioning," she told me in our free consultation. "I go to work. I feed my dog. I smile at the right times. But I feel like I am watching my own life from across a room."
She described walking through her days on autopilot — moving through the motions of being a person without being present inside any of them. She had begun to wonder whether grief had simply become the shape of her life, and whether there was any version of her that existed on the other side of it.
What she was looking for, she said, was not a fix. She did not want anyone to help her "move on" or "find closure" or "heal already." She wanted to know whether the heaviness in her chest could ever lift without her having to leave her mother behind to do it.
That is the question that brought her to her first Integrative Energy Healing session.
The journey, session by session

Session 0 · The free consultation
Mapping what was held
A 20-minute phone conversation. No intake form. No clinical checklist. Maria spoke for most of it; I asked a few questions and listened. By the end of the call, the shape of her grief had begun to come into focus — not as a story, but as a felt sense: dense, frozen mostly around the heart and throat, with a deep exhaustion running beneath it like a second pulse. We agreed to begin with a 60-minute Integrative Energy Healing session, with permission to extend into Grief & Loss work if her system was ready.

Session 1 · Integrative Energy Healing
The first exhale
Maria lay fully clothed on the table with her hands resting at her sides. Within the first ten minutes, her breath dropped from her chest into her belly — a small thing on paper, but one she had not been able to reach on her own for months. By the end of the session, she described feeling lighter "in a way I can't explain, like someone had moved a folder from the top of my chest to somewhere I can carry it." She cried quietly for the last few minutes and rested afterward.

Session 3 · Grief & Loss
Meeting her mother in the field
By the third session, the Grief & Loss work had begun to open a deeper layer. Maria reported that something had shifted in the way she dreamed — fewer waking-up-with-a-start dreams, more what she called "visiting dreams" where her mother felt present in a gentle, non-frightening way. In this session, we worked specifically with the throat and heart centers, where the words she had not been able to say to her mother were still held. She left the session with a different kind of tired — the tired of having let something move, rather than the tired of holding it still.

Session 6 · Intuitive Energy Healing
Finding herself again
By the sixth session, Maria had begun to come back into her body in a way she had not been able to name. She had re-started cooking — not for fuel, but for pleasure. She had taken her dog on longer walks and noticed the trees again. Intuitive Energy Healing in this session included guided imagery and held silence; she met an image of her younger self that she described as "tired, but reachable." For the first time since her mother died, she felt something other than grief as the dominant note in her inner landscape. It was not joy, exactly — it was presence.

Six months later
A life she can live
Maria now books a session roughly once a season, mostly as a tune-up. She called her sister again — first with effort, then with ease. She has kept the light off at night. She keeps a small framed photograph of her mother where she can see it from her reading chair, and she describes the weight in her chest as "quieter, like something I carry with me rather than something I am carrying." In her words, in a follow-up email a few months ago: "I am not over it, and I don't think I want to be. But I am in it differently now, and I have a life I can live."
What shifted, specifically
Maria's experience is hers, but the markers of change often rhyme across the grief work I do. These are some of the specific shifts she named, in her own words, over the course of our time together:
Sleep
"By the third week, I was sleeping through the night for the first time in seven months. I had no idea how badly I needed that until I had it back."
The body
"Sometime around week five, I realized I could feel my own body again. Not just the grief in it — me. My shoulders, my breath, the ground under my feet."
Tears
"I cried without bracing for it for the first time in eighteen months. I didn't know I had been bracing. I didn't know what it had been costing me."
Family
"In month four, I called my sister. We talked for two hours and I didn't try to skip around the empty place. That was the real shift."
Daily life
"I started cooking for enjoyment again. I noticed the light coming through the kitchen window. Small things, but I had stopped being able to feel them."
Orientation
"I am still sad. I think I will be for a long time. But I am not avoiding being sad anymore, which is its own kind of freedom."
What this is, and what it isn't
What happened with Maria is not a typical result, because grief is not a typical experience. It is also not a unique one — many people who come to Alif Healing have been carrying something heavy for a long time, and many of them find that the work does what talk alone could reach but did not. The body's grief, the field's grief, the slow, layered grief that lives beneath the story: these are what integrative energy healing is designed to meet.
If something in Maria's story has landed for you, you don't have to know what you're looking for to begin. The first step is usually smaller than people expect — a free 15–20 minute conversation, a quiet question asked and answered, and a sense of whether this is the right room for what you are carrying.
